WHY THE STACHE?

This month we happily join the MOVEMBER movement to raise awareness of men’s health issues including prostate and testicular cancer. Our monetary donation will go towards awareness, education, coping with the disease, thriving beyond the diagnoses, and overall prevention research.

The statistics are horrifying. “1 in 2 men, and 1 in 3 women, will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime.” Additionally, a shocking “1 in 6 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in his lifetime” and approximately 30,000 men will die from prostate cancer in 2013. Visit us.movember.com for more information on men’s health issues and simple tips (Movember tips) to improve your lifestyle and take care of your body.

Please share with your father, uncle, brother, co-worker, and friend. Everyone can benefit from these easy health tips! Sharing is caring. To print these easy reminders, please visit HERE for a downloadable PDF. Remember, knowledge is power, prevention is everything and early detection is key.

FEEDING AMERICA

A shocking 1 in 4 children and a staggering 49 million Americans do not have enough to eat.

This month, in acknowledgement of National Nutrition Month, we are proud to support and introduce you to Feeding America – a phenomenal organization dedicated to ending hunger by providing nutritious food, safe places for children to have meals, and assistance during disasters. As the nation’s leading domestic hunger-relief charity, Feeding America and its food bank network members supply food to more than 37 million Americans each year, including 14 million children and 3 million seniors.

Despite the common misconception that America enjoys food in excess and has an unlimited amount of resources, millions are struggling right in your own neighborhood. Let’s help to spread the word this month and raise awareness about this worthy cause. To make a donation, please click here. For other ways to get involved, please click here.

Breast Cancer Awareness

CancerMonth_web

A shocking 637 women are diagnosed with invasive breast cancer every day. UPPAbaby is proud to join forces with the Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation (DSLRF) to raise funds for National Breast Cancer Awareness month. We are encouraging consumers to “Act with Love” by purchasing a Drew (tangerine) or Olivia (fuchsia pink) VISTA smart universal stroller system this month. For every VISTA stroller purchased in these vibrant color fashions, we will donate 5% of sales to the Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation. We encourage you to Act With Love and donate funds for prevention research by visiting the site HERE. Spread the word and stroll in PINK (… or ORANGE) to support all those directly and indirectly affected by this life-threatening disease. Let’s make breast cancer history.

AUTISM SPEAKS

Autism Speaks is the nation’s largest autism advocacy organization dedicated to funding research for the causes, prevention, treatments and cures for autism. An estimated 1 out of 54 boys and 1 in 252 girls are diagnosed with autism in the US – a 10 to 17% prevalence increase in the recent years, according to government autism statistics. A shocking revelation is that there are more children affected by ASD than “diabetes, AIDS, cancer, cerebral palsy, cystic fibrosis, muscular dystrophy or Down syndrome, combined.”

At UPPAbaby we understand the hardships that come with raising a child with autism. It is close to our heart and we hope to help in any way possible, which is why we’ve chosen Austism Speaks as our charity of the month. If you too wish to contribute to this worthy cause by donating, joining a Giving Program, participating in research, fundraising for events and more, please go to http://www.autismspeaks.org/ways-give.

To become educated on the signs of autism, learn about treatments and become aware of this rapid-spreading disorder, please visit http://www.autismspeaks.org/what-autism. For educational training and support in the New England area, please visit Asperger’s Association of New England (AANE)’s website, http://www.aane.org/. To search for a Walk Now for Autism Speaks, click here.

Norwell’s Adopt-a-Family

NorwellAdopt

This holiday season we are so excited to participate in the Friends of Norwell’s Adopt-A-Family program!

Our office has been assigned a local family in need to support. We will donate several gifts from their wish list for the children and parents of the struggling family with the hope to make their holiday a little brighter.

There are many ways to get involved! If you too would like to support a family, please visit The Salvation Army website http://www.thesalvationarmytucson.org/AdoptAFamily.html or search for a location nearest you. Thousands of towns that participate in programs like this so please ask your friends, family and community for Adopt-A-Family programs in your hometown.

Here at UPPA we do our best to give back on a national and LOCAL level. We’re proud to be able to give to charities close to our homes and close to our hearts.

The NephCure Foundation

The NephCure Foundation is the only non-profit exclusively dedicated to researching and fighting the debilitating kidney disease, FSGS, and Nephrotic Syndrome by detecting the cause, improving treatment and striving to find a cure. In total, 26 million Americans suffer from Chronic Kidney Disease, with Nephrotic Syndrom as one of the most common forms.

Recenty, UPPAbaby was proud to be a sponsor at the first annual NephCure Walk in Providence, RI. In addition to raising money for research, the walk aimed to connect families with similar stories and raise awareness within the community. The NephCure Walk raised over $4,500 that will be used to fund research and ultimately, work to find a cure for all those affected with FSGC and Nephrotic Syndrome.

For ways to contribute to NephCure through educating, researching and fundraising, please visit http://nephcure.org/give-now. To participate in a walk in your area, go to http://nephcure.org/events-nephcure-walk.

Cradles to Crayons

Cradles to Crayons

It’s that time of the year again – Back to School! For many children, it’s time to swarm the bus stop to show off their trendy new clothing and fresh pair of sneakers. However, that’s not always the case. Here in Massachusetts, there are more than 305,000 children under 12 who live in poor or low-income households. Throughout the year, over 100,000 Massachusetts children will be homeless. That’s why we have chosen Cradles to Crayons to be our August Charity of the Month for two years in a row. Cradles to Crayons was created in 2002 with the mission to give children ages 0 to 12 the essentials of life for free. This includes clothing, school supplies, toys and so much more. This charity prides itself on offering high quality new or used goods to make children feel prepared for school, all while allowing them to feel valued and loved.

While you’re cleaning out your closets and making room for new clothing, please keep Cradles to Crayons in mind. You can host a donation drive, volunteer, deliver goods to their drop-off locations or even give a monetary donation. The less privileged kids of Boston and Philadelphia area will thank you!

To contribute to this worthy cause, please visit http://cradlestocrayons.org/boston/get-involved. A $25 donation provides a child with the essentials they need to thrive at school. Donate today by visiting http://cradlestocrayons.org/boston/node/add/donation.
