We recommend children ride in a forward-facing harness seat until the maximum height or weight requirements are met. We do not promote use of the ALTA until a child is approximately 6 years old and fits within the appropriate weight (40 - 100 lbs) and height (38 - 57”) requirements.
SecureFit combines well marked belt guides with a recessed shoulder belt well to help retain the belt and a lap belt positioner that secures and positions the vehicle lap belt for proper fit while preventing submarining.
Proper height of the headrest and belt guides are critical for optimal performance. The headrest should rest just above the top of the child’s shoulders ensuring the shoulder belt guide is properly positioned. The child’s ears must be below the top of the ALTA’s headrest.
Once buckled, the vehicle belt must pass completely through the shoulder belt guide hook to prevent it from falling off the child’s shoulder. The vehicle lap belt must lie flat and snug across the child’s upper thighs and not across the child’s abdomen. Both the lap and shoulder belt must route under the ALTA’s armrest.
LATCH is used as a great safety and convenience feature as it helps to properly position the car seat in the vehicle and prevents it from becoming a projectile when not in use.
In cases where LATCH is not available, or in some center seat installations where 11” apart dedicated LATCH is not possible, we recommend storing the LATCH and only using the seat belt.
When not using LATCH, it is important to route the seat belt as instructed in our manual and on the product labels, then buckle it to connect it to the vehicle, even when a child is not present to prevent it from becoming a projectile.
