You can use LATCH in rear-facing mode until a child is 30 lbs. After the child reaches 30 lbs, it’s time to switch to belt installation. For forward-facing installations, we recommend using belt only as remembering to switch from LATCH to belt is simply one more thing parents could forget.
The Knox® is not compatible with inflatable seat belts. In cases, where an inflatable seat belt is present, install using LATCH (while paying attention to weight limit of child), or move the car seat to a position with a suitable seat belt type.
You cannot install with both systems. Both are incredibly effective on their own for proper installation.
No, UPPAbaby does not allow vehicle seat protectors with their car seats because they haven't been tested or approved for use. The car seat base has a finished bottom to prevent vehicle seat damage.
A vehicle seat protector is not permitted for use with the Knox. Parents do not need a seat protector as the base has a finished bottom that prevents damage to vehicle seats.
Yes, you can machine wash the Knox seat fabric on gentle cycle. The seat base fabric can be removed for easy cleaning. The fit inlay cover is removable and can be machine washed on the gentle cycle. Lay all fabrics flat to dry. We recommend spot cleaning the upper body fabric whenever possible.

In both rear-facing and forward-facing mode, the headrest should be positioned at the child’s shoulders to ensure proper fit of the harness. The headrest can lightly touch the shoulders and allow 1 in of space between the child’s shoulders and headrest.
The fit inlay must be used with children from 14 - 25 lbs in order to achieve a proper harness fit.
The seat can lightly touch the Knox as long as it is not pushing the seat upright where the bottom of the Knox is not touching the vehicle seating surface. The tension indicator must remain green. The vehicle manufacturer must permit this method of install.
If a proper angle cannot be achieved with the adjustable foot, a rolled towel may be used.
The seated harness height on the Knox with the head rest in the lowest position is approximately 10 inches. The harness height with the headrest in the highest position is approximately 17.5 inches.
We developed the SmartSecure System as a guide to help take the guesswork out of installation and to assist parents and caregivers installing the seat. If the Tension Indicator is not fully green but the user is able to achieve a tight installation (i.e., less than 1” of movement at the belt path left to right and front to back) and the user manual instruction has been followed, then the Knox is ok to use.
